Safety Standards for Automatic Pool Covers
When it comes to protecting your family, you want a pool cover that’s reliable. Coverstar automatic pool covers are UL listed and certified to meet industry standards, but our covers also undergo testing to ensure they meet the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) safety standards. These guidelines were developed to inhibit pool access to children under five to reduce the risk of drowning.
Based on ASTM standards, Coverstar automatic pool covers meet the following requirements:
- Control switch regulations: The control switch or other device used to open and close the pool cover must be mounted in full view of the entire pool
- Weight specifications: The cover must be able to hold the approximate weight of two adults and one child: a minimum of 485 lbs
- Surface drainage: The cover must pass a surface drainage test to prevent excessive water from collecting on the cover
- Perimeter Deflection: Any pool cover openings must be able to prevent a test object from falling through
